Heritiera littoralis

Heritiera littoralis (Malvaceae), the Indo-West Pacific looking glass mangrove is capable of growing in full strength sea water, it is generally found at the terrestrial edge of the mangrove zone and generally isolated and scattered in the community. In contrast to other non-secreting mangroves, H. littoralis displays a unique but poorly understood mechanism for extreme salt exclusion from its leaves even in hypersaline substrates.
